Instructions

To Prepare Cake:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line the inside of a 2 1/2 quart ovenproof bowl with foil. Grease and flour foil; set aside.

In medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt; set aside.

In separate bowl, cream butter and sugar; add vanilla. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Alternately add flour mixture and milk.

Pour batter into prepared bowl and bake 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes. Loosen edge; invert cake onto wire rack and cool completely.

To Decorate Cake:
Using a serrated knife, trim flat side of cake. Frost entire cake with a thin layer of white buttercream frosting to seal-in crumbs.

Using a wooden pick, draw a pentagon (with five 1 1/2-inch sides) in center of cake. Surround pentagon with five hexagons (each six 1 1/2-inch sides). Repeat pattern, alternating pentagons and hexagons to cover entire ball. Using a pastry bag with a writing tip, outline the shapes in black buttercream frosting. Using a pastry bag with a star tip, fill in the shapes with black and white frosting, following the photo as a guide.

Makes 12-15 servings.
