Sugar Plums

Bits of Rich, Soft Candy Dough--Chock-full of Dried Fruit and Crunchy Nuts

Ingredients List

Sugar Plums
  • 3 3/4 cups - (1 pound) Domino® Confectioners Sugar
  • 1/2 cup - butter, cut into small pieces, chilled
  • 1 tablespoon - milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon - almond extract
  • food coloring
  • walnut or pecan halves
  • whole almonds
  • candied cherries
  • pitted dates or prunes
  • Domino® Granulated Sugar

Instructions

Beat confectioners' sugar, butter, milk and almond extract in a bowl until mixture looks like fine crumbs. Work mixture with your fingertips until the mixture begins to hold together. Knead mixture on a sheet of waxed paper until the dough is blended, smooth and creamy. Tint as desired with food coloring. Wrap in wax paper and chill until dough can be handled without sticking. Shape chilled dough into small balls. Sandwich balls between walnut or pecan halves, flatten into patties and top with almonds and pieces of candied cherries, or stuff into pitted dates or prunes and roll in granulated sugar. Store in air-tight container in the refrigerator. Keeps up to 2 weeks.
