Baked Apples

A simple favorite—--just as good for breakfast as for dessert.

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 apples, washed and cored
  • 1 cup Domino® Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 pinch salt
  • raisins, optional
  • nuts, optional
  • thin lemon slices, optional
  • butter or margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease an 8x8x2-inch baking dish; set aside.

Pare apples about 1/3 down from stem end.

Reserve 2 tablespoons sugar.

Combine remaining sugar, water and salt; stir until sugar is dissolved. Stuff apple with raisins, nuts and lemon slices, if desired. Pour sugar syrup over apples. Dot apples with butter. Cover with foil.

Bake 20 minutes; uncover and bake 20 minutes longer, basting occasionally.

Combine reserved sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over apples. Bake 10 minutes until apples are tender, but still hold their shape. Serve warm or cold, with a dollop of yogurt or ice cream, if desired.
