Caramel Frosting

A rich, thick caramel frosting--great for cakes or cupcakes.


enough for a 2-layer cake or 24 cupcakes


  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed Domino® Light Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 3 cups Domino® Confectioners Sugar


Melt butter in saucepan; stir in brown sugar and salt. Bring to a rolling boil and boil rapidly 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, carefully stir in milk, then return to a boil. Remove from heat; cool 20 minutes or until lukewarm. Slowly beat in confectioners' sugar until smooth.

Refrigerate to thicken, then beat to soften before spreading on cake or cupcakes. If you wish to use immediately, add an additional 3/4 cup of confectioners' sugar until thick enough to spread.


For a deeper caramel color, use dark brown sugar.
