Easy Slice Sugar Cookies

These slice and bake sugar cookies make baking big batches a breeze.


about 3 dozen cookies



  • 1 cup Domino® Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Royal Icing

  • 2 cups Domino® Confectioners Sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 3 tablespoons warm water
  • assorted food coloring
  • sprinkles



Preheat oven to 375°F. Prepare cookie sheet.

In a large bowl, mix sugar and butter. Beat in egg and vanilla until light and fluffy. Mix in flour and baking soda. Divide dough into halves. Shape each half into a roll about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Wrap and refrigerate 1 hour, until chilled. Cut rolls into 1/4-inch slices and place slices on cookie sheet.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned around the edges. Cool on wire rack. Frost cookies and top with sprinkles.

Royal Icing

In a bowl, with mixer at medium speed, beat sugar, meringue powder and warm water until stiff peaks form, about 5 to 7 minutes. Tint icing with food coloring, if desired. If icing is too thick, add a couple drops of water. If icing is too thin, add additional sugar, and continue beating until desired consistency. 


To chill dough quickly, place in freezer for 30 minutes.

Meringue powder is available in specialty stores wherever cake-decorating equipment is sold.

Use icing immediately. Keep covered with a damp cloth or plastic wrap to prevent drying.
