Fresh Apple Nut Bread with Streusel Topping

INGREDIENTS

Bread

  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 cup firmly packed Domino® Light Brown Sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups (about 2 large) apples, peeled, cored and grated
  • 3/4 cup walnuts, chopped

Topping

  • 1/4 cup firmly packed Domino® Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped

INSTRUCTIONS

Bread

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until well blended. Beat in eggs, one at a time; combine well.

In large bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Blend into creamed mixture, alternately with buttermilk, until well combined. Stir in apples and walnuts. Pour batter into prepared pan.

Topping

In small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon and walnuts. Sprinkle over batter.

Bake 65 to 75 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack.

QUICK TIP

You can remove apple cores neatly and quickly with a melon baller.
