Wonderful Red Cabbage

A sweet and sour, tangy delight that makes a great side dish.


6 to 8 servings


  • 3/4 cup onion, chopped
  • 6 tablespoons bacon drippings or butter
  • 3/4 cup firmly packed Domino® Light Brown Sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 6 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • 1 whole medium to large red cabbage, shredded
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste


In an extra-large skillet or Dutch oven, sauté onion in bacon drippings or butter 4 minutes. Add remaining ingredients, except cabbage, and bring to a boil. Add cabbage and toss to combine.

Reduce heat, cover and simmer 30 to 45 minutes, until cabbage is tender. If necessary, add additional water while cooking.
