Apple Upside Down Cake

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 1 cup firmly packed Domino® Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3 large apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup Organic Raw Cane Sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • vanilla ice cream, optional

Yields: 1 10-inch cake

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease 10-inch cake pan.

Step 2

Stir together melted butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Pour into prepared pan and spread to cover bottom completely. Place apple slices on top of sugar mixture. Set pan aside.

Step 3

In a bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder.

Step 4

In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla; beat until combined.

Step 5

Add flour mixture to the wet ingredients alternating with the milk. Spoon the batter on top of the apples. Gently spread with an offset spatula to make an even layer.

Step 6

Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until a cake tester comes out of the cake center clean. Cool cake in pan on wire rack for 15 to 20 minutes. Invert cake pan onto a large plate with a rim. Serve warm, topped with one scoop of ice cream, if desired.
